Italian Elegance Above the Indian Ocean
The ocean is a constant presence at BVLGARI Resort Bali. It fills the view from the cliffside bar, appears beyond the thatched roofs of the villas, and provides the backdrop to afternoons spent beside a private pool. On Bali’s southern Bukit Peninsula, the resort occupies a dramatic stretch of limestone coastline near Uluwatu, where the scale of the landscape gives even a quiet morning a sense of occasion.
Within the property, high stone walls, tropical gardens, and individual villa entrances create a more intimate atmosphere. Days might begin with breakfast outdoors, continue with a Balinese cooking class or spa treatment, and finish with Italian aperitivo as the light changes over the water.
For us, the appeal lies in that balance between privacy and a broader resort experience. There are compelling reasons to leave the villa, alongside plenty of reasons to remain there. For a honeymoon, anniversary, or the coastal portion of a longer Bali journey, we would allow several nights to enjoy both.
A Roman Maison Finds a Balinese Home
BVLGARI opened its Bali resort in 2006, following the debut of its first hotel in Milan in 2004. Bali became the collection’s second property, bringing the Italian house’s approach to design and hospitality into a tropical setting.
The location established a different direction from the urban intimacy of Milan. Here, accommodation could spread across gardens, private pools could become part of everyday life, and Balinese architecture and craftsmanship could help define the experience.
That relationship remains central to the resort’s identity. Its Italian connections are evident in the restaurants, furnishings, and attention to decorative detail, while the materials, rooflines, and cultural experiences maintain a clear relationship with Indonesia.
More recent additions, including the Serpenti Villa and Serpenti-inspired pool and beach spaces, introduce another expression of the house’s design heritage. These updates allow the property to evolve while retaining the architectural character that has distinguished it since opening.
Volcanic Stone, Thatched Roofs, and Indonesian Craft
The resort was designed by the Milanese practice now known as ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. Its architecture combines contemporary Italian sensibilities with Balinese building traditions, using hand-cut volcanic stone, indigenous woods, and alang-alang thatched roofs.
Terracing follows the contours of the cliffside landscape, taking inspiration from Bali’s rice fields. The buildings sit within this arrangement of gardens and pathways, with the ocean visible beyond layers of roofs and planting.
Inside, Indonesian antiques share space with furnishings developed by the architects and local artisans. Handcrafted pieces, woven textiles, and carefully selected ceramics give the interiors texture and regional character. Private swimming pools lined in green sukabumi stone extend the palette outdoors.
The effect is particularly successful in the villas, where shaded living areas make outdoor space useful throughout the day. A terrace becomes somewhere to eat breakfast, read, or spend the afternoon between swims. Choosing the right outlook matters here, because that view will be part of much of your stay.
Private Pools and Individual Addresses
Accommodation at BVLGARI Resort Bali is organized around villas and larger mansions, each with its own pool. The main distinctions are the position within the resort, the ocean outlook, and the amount of space available for gathering or retreating into privacy.
Ocean View Villa: The one-bedroom entry category sits within tropical gardens behind a traditional Balinese entrance and stone walls. A shaded outdoor living area, private infinity-edge pool, and sunbeds face views across the resort’s roofs toward the Indian Ocean. Inside, a king bedroom leads to a generous bathroom with a bathtub, separate shower, and double vanity.
Premier Ocean View Villa – One Bedroom: Located toward the top of the resort, these villas offer an elevated perspective across the thatched roofs and ocean. The layout retains the private pool and substantial outdoor living area, making this a strong option for couples who value a broad outlook and time spent at their villa.
Ocean Cliff Villa – One Bedroom: Positioned closest to the cliff’s edge, this category emphasizes the open ocean panorama. The private pool and shaded lounge make the setting especially rewarding for travelers who want the view to be a defining part of the stay. We would give this category particular consideration for a honeymoon or anniversary.
Serpenti Villa: Inspired by BVLGARI’s signature serpent motif, this one-bedroom villa brings a more explicitly branded design experience to the collection. Tropical gardens surround an outdoor setting with a shaded patio, minibar, infinity pool, and sunbeds, while the outlook extends across thatched roofs toward the ocean. Twenty-four-hour butler service supports the stay.
Premier Ocean View Villa – Two Bedrooms: A central living room connects two bedroom suites, creating a practical arrangement for families or friends. The primary bedroom has a king bed, while the second contains two double beds. Separate bathrooms, a private pool, and a shaded outdoor lounge allow shared time without requiring everyone to keep the same schedule.
Ocean Cliff Villa – Two Bedrooms: This category combines the two-bedroom configuration with a position near the cliff and a more immediate ocean outlook. A central living room, individual bathrooms, an outdoor shower, and a private pool make it well suited to a longer shared stay.
The BVLGARI Villa: Behind its own entrance, this two-bedroom residence offers extensive gardens, outdoor pavilions, and a 20-meter heated swimming pool cascading into a lower pool. Each bedroom has its own sitting area, terrace, and bathroom. The breadth of outdoor space makes the villa especially appealing for travelers who want to spend much of their holiday in a private setting.
Three-Bedroom Mansion: A separate entrance, tropical gardens, substantial living and dining areas, and a private pool give the mansion a residential character. A dedicated butler coordinates daily arrangements, including private meals and treatments in the spa pavilion. It is a natural choice for a family gathering where shared living space is as important as the bedrooms.
Five-Bedroom Mansion: The largest bedroom configuration extends the residential experience to bigger families and groups. Alongside the private pool, living and dining spaces, and butler service, the mansion includes a private spa pavilion and gym. It provides considerable flexibility for travelers who want to combine a shared holiday with individual routines.
Indonesian Flavors and Italian Evenings
Dining moves between the resort’s two cultural influences, with Indonesian cooking at Sangkar and contemporary Italian cuisine at Il Ristorante. The bar and seasonal pizza offering add more relaxed options, while private dining makes an evening at the villa equally appealing.
Sangkar: The all-day restaurant introduces Balinese and Indonesian flavors in a dining room overlooking the ocean. Sculptural rooster cages become pendant lights, and an artwork by Balinese artist Made Wianta forms a distinctive backdrop. Menus include local fish, Indonesian spices, and sambals, while breakfast is available throughout the day. It is a particularly good place to begin exploring the island through its food.
Il Ristorante – Niko Romito: The resort’s signature Italian restaurant presents Romito’s approach to Italian cooking, with an emphasis on essential flavors and precise preparation. The Bali menus also incorporate local ingredients in dishes developed for the destination. We would reserve an evening here as a deliberate part of the stay, allowing time to enjoy the full dining experience.
The BVLGARI Bar: Beneath a thatched roof overlooking the Indian Ocean, the bar serves light meals and cocktails throughout the day and evening. Italian classics sit alongside drinks incorporating Balinese ingredients such as arak and rosella. Sunset aperitivo is an especially appealing ritual, with small bites accompanying drinks as the coastline settles into evening.
Pizza Bar – Pier Daniele Seu: This seasonal collaboration operates at The BVLGARI Bar, bringing the Roman pizzaiolo’s approach to a relaxed resort setting. Italian ingredients and dough matured for around 30 hours underpin the offering. Its seasonal availability should be checked for the dates of the stay.
Private Dining: Villa and mansion dining allows meals to fit around the day’s plans. For a celebration, a private barbecue or carefully arranged dinner can make particularly good use of the larger residences’ outdoor spaces. We would coordinate the setting and menu in advance.
Between the Pool and Balinese Traditions
The Serpenti Pool Clvb gives the main pool a distinctive visual identity, with golden-toned umbrellas, cabanas, and loungers overlooking the ocean. It provides a social alternative to the privacy of a villa pool, especially for an afternoon spent reading or enjoying a drink between swims.
Below the cliffs, Serpenti Beach introduces the same design inspiration to the resort’s beach club. Access is via an inclined elevator, making the descent part of the experience. Plans for the shoreline should follow the team’s guidance on sea conditions and access; the pools provide the more predictable setting for swimming.
Cultural experiences add depth to the stay. A Balinese cooking class introduces Indonesian dishes, while the Banjar Walk offers a guided look at local village life. Handcrafted offering sessions provide context for the floral arrangements encountered throughout Bali.
The resort also offers a Melukat ceremony at its temple, led by a Balinese priest. Participation is an opportunity to learn about a living religious tradition, with attire and conduct guided by the team. We would choose experiences according to each traveler’s interests and leave enough time afterward to reflect or simply relax.
Wellbeing at the Ocean’s Edge
The BVLGARI Spa brings together Asian and European treatment approaches, with Balinese massage, facials, body wraps, and rituals using aromatic oils, herbs, and warm stones. The oceanfront setting gives a treatment an immediate connection to the surroundings.
For couples, a spa appointment can become the center of an otherwise unstructured afternoon. Travelers staying in the mansions also have the option of arranging treatments in their private spa pavilion, allowing the experience to fit comfortably around family plans.
Fitness has its own distinct identity at BVLGARI Gymnasivm, developed in partnership with Technogym. The resort also offers yoga, while the BVLGARI Tennis Clvb introduces court time and private coaching for different ability levels.
We would book preferred treatments and coaching sessions before arrival, then keep the remaining schedule flexible. A morning workout, a late breakfast, and an afternoon beside the pool are enough to make a satisfying day here.
Little Gems and Time Together
The Little Gems Clvb gives younger travelers their own place within the resort experience. Activities and amenities draw on BVLGARI’s Serpenti motif, which appears on games, plush toys, and hooded towels. Teepees can also be arranged in villas or mansions, adding a playful touch to the accommodation.
Children’s menus at Sangkar and Il Ristorante provide dining flexibility, while the tennis program includes sessions for younger players. We would confirm age suitability, supervision arrangements, and the available activity schedule for each family before arrival.
The accommodation choices are a considerable advantage. Two-bedroom villas allow parents and children to share a private base, while the mansions suit multigenerational holidays. Separate bedrooms, outdoor living areas, and space for meals together make it easier to alternate between family activities and individual downtime.
Respecting Bali’s Land and Community
The resort frames its environmental and community initiatives through Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese philosophy concerned with harmonious relationships between people, the spiritual world, and nature.
Published initiatives include recycling, mangrove planting, employee clean-up campaigns, and a chef’s herb garden. The resort also supports local bee conservation by maintaining colonies on the property in collaboration with local advocates.
Its cultural practices form another part of that approach. Daily offerings and ceremonies at the resort temple maintain a connection to Balinese Hindu traditions, while the use of local craftsmanship gives Indonesian makers a visible place within the guest experience.
These are specific initiatives worth recognizing. They also provide useful context for a stay in a destination where the relationship between tourism, local communities, and the natural environment deserves thoughtful attention.
Access Along the Cliffside
Travelers with mobility or other accessibility requirements should assess the resort’s suitability before booking. The terraced cliffside setting, differing villa layouts, and inclined-elevator beach access make individual arrangements important.
The resort’s public information does not provide enough detail to confirm a fully step-free stay or specific adapted bathroom features. We would request confirmation of the exact accommodation, entrance and bathroom access, routes to restaurants and the spa, pool access, and suitable transportation. For travelers with hearing or visual access needs, we would also confirm the available communication and in-room assistance features directly with the team.
Discovering the Bukit Peninsula
Nearby Uluwatu Temple offers one of southern Bali’s most memorable cultural settings. Its coastal position and evening kecak performances make it a worthwhile outing, particularly when accompanied by a guide who can explain the temple’s significance and the story presented through the dance.
The Bukit Peninsula is also closely associated with surfing. Lessons arranged through the resort allow instruction to be matched to experience and conditions, while beaches such as Padang Padang provide a different perspective on the coastline. A private driver makes it easier to combine an outing with lunch or time exploring the surrounding area.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park adds another option, with performances and programming focused on Indonesian culture. We would select a few meaningful excursions rather than plan to cross the island every day.
For a first visit to Bali, pairing the resort with a separate stay around Ubud creates a more balanced itinerary. Time inland can focus on temples, art, and the surrounding countryside, leaving the coastal portion for Uluwatu, the ocean, and the pleasures of the resort itself.
Arriving on Bali’s Southern Coast
BVLGARI Resort Bali is located on Jalan Goa Lempeh in the Uluwatu area of the Bukit Peninsula.
By Air and Private Transfer: Arrive at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar Airport, using the code DPS. A private road transfer generally takes approximately 45–60 minutes in normal conditions. We would allow additional time during busy periods, when the journey can extend to 90 minutes or longer.
From Ubud: For travelers combining an inland stay with BVLGARI, allow approximately two to three hours by private car as a planning estimate, depending on the starting property and traffic. We would keep the arrival afternoon relatively open.
Airport assistance and transfers can be coordinated in advance, with any accommodation-specific inclusions confirmed when booking.
A Private View of Bali
BVLGARI Resort Bali rewards travelers who give themselves time to settle in. The villa becomes familiar, a favorite place at the bar emerges, and the day begins to take shape around breakfast, the changing light, and whichever experience feels most appealing.
Its strongest qualities work together: architecture grounded in Indonesian materials, Italian dining and design, cultural encounters, and accommodation that makes privacy a substantial part of the holiday.
We would build a stay around that combination. Leave room for a village walk or an evening at Uluwatu Temple, reserve the meals and treatments that matter, and protect a few afternoons for the villa. With the Indian Ocean in front of you and dinner still several hours away, there is little reason to hurry.
